Technical Note
The publication entitled "ACI
318-25 Design Advanced Concrete Anchor Bolts" is presents as a
specialized technical tool, designed for engineers and technicians in the
discipline of civil engineering. Its main objective is to offer A design
alternative for structural elements of reinforced concrete, developed from the
perspective strictly technical and personal of the author. Is It is important to
note that this content has not been Designed to resolve contractual
discrepancies between owners, engineers, architects, contractors, subcontractors,
material suppliers or testing laboratories, or to define the legal
responsibilities of the parties involved in the execution of engineering and
construction projects.
Technical Foundations and
Evolutionary Context
For much of the twentieth
century, the lack of Specific Guidelines for Bolt Design and Use of anchoring
limited the accuracy in the execution of projects. It wasn't until the 1970s,
and particularly with the publication of the ACI
318-02, when criteria were introduced in the form of Appendix D.
advances were the product of pioneering research by the ACI
355 Committee, supplemented by contributions from Eurocodes. The
contributions of renowned scholars, such as the Professors Richard Klingner and
Rolf Eligehausen, allowed the total integration of these concepts into ACI
Codes 318-08 and ACI 318-11. Over
time, and thanks to the constant technical evolution promoted by the American
Institute Reinforced Concrete (ACI) and its specialized committees (318, 349 and
355), the design of bolts of anchoring as a formal chapter of the code,
remaining reflected in Chapter 17 of ACI 318-14 and
ACI 318-19. These normative bases and research constitute the
fundamental pillar of the on which this publication is based.
Publication Structure
The work is composed of
eight chapters, developed with Technical rigour and detail in the structural
calculation:
-
The Anchorage in
History A historical
analysis that traces the evolution of anchor bolts, from their origins in
the antiquity to sophistication of systems Modern. The influence of concepts
precursor geometric and the transcendence of the first applications in
ancient structures.
-
Introduction to
Anchor Bolts An overview of
the function is provided, Application and Mechanical Fundamentals of Bolts
anchoring, underlining its essential role in the structural integrity of
concrete.
-
Anchor Bolt
Specifications Thorough
analysis of regulations, technical characteristics and quality standards
that regulate the manufacture, selection and testing of bolts, ensuring
compliance with strict performance.
-
General
Requirements of Bolts Anchor Description
of the criteria and conditions for the installation and proper use of bolts,
encompassing durability considerations, interaction with piercings and other
aspects critical for structural behavior.
-
Resilient Anchor
Capabilities to the Concrete Study
of the mechanical properties of the anchoring systems, with emphasis on
their to resist compressive, tensile and Cutting action. Factor analysis of
safety, reduction coefficients and methods of Mechanical verification.
-
Design of Anchor
Bolts Theoretical and
practical development of procedures calculation for bolt sizing, aligned
with the guidelines established in the ACI 318-19. Formulas, methods and
Application examples that ensure high performance safe and efficient under
real conditions of service.
-
Practical Design
Exercises Case studies and
solved problems covering Different load scenarios and usage conditions of
anchor bolt systems. The methodology is based exclusively on the ACI
criteria 318-19, facilitating the practical application of the theoretical
concepts.
-
Knowledge
Assessments A set of
exercises and assessments designed to to consolidate and validate the
knowledge acquired, reinforcing the assimilation of advanced techniques to
the design and analysis of anchoring systems.
Conclusion
This publication is an essential resource for
engineers and technicians who need to delve deeper into the advanced design of
concrete anchor bolts, based on one of the most rigorous regulations, ACI
318-25, Requirements of Regulations for Structural Concrete,.
Based on more than 40 years of professional experience and academic, the work
seeks to channel and clarify the technical responsibilities, both in design and
in the construction of reinforced concrete structures. Herself emphasizes its
consultative and specialized nature, avoiding being interpreted as a tool to
define contractual commitments or legal responsibilities between the different
parties involved in a project.
